A playbook we actually run
Stop working the list.
Work the window.
Cold lists tell you who might buy someday. Signals tell you who is likely to buy now. This is the exact playbook we use at Hilead to book our own demos: no list blasting, no 8-touch sequences, and it fits on one page.
A signal is fresh for days, not months
Something changes inside a company, and for about two weeks the context sits on the buyer’s desk. The window is the strategy; everything below exists to hit it.
The sequence starts while the signal is fresh
The method, in four moves
Define the ICP tight
One persona, one problem you demonstrably solve. If everyone fits, no one does, and every later step gets weaker.
Watch for buying signals
Hiring bursts, key exec hires, funding events, expansion moves. A signal means something changed, and change creates budget and urgency.
Act inside the window
Reach out within days of the signal, while the context is still on their desk. A stale signal is worse than no signal: it shows.
Lead with value, not a pitch
Offer something useful about their situation first. The meeting is a consequence of the conversation, never the opening ask.
The sequence: four touches, then stop
Every touch has a reason to exist. Anything past the fourth only burns the account.
Visit
A profile view is the softest possible knock. Some prospects come to you first.
Invite, no note
Blank invites out-accept generic notes. Save the personalization for the conversation.
Value message
Short. One useful offer, one easy yes. No deck, no calendar link, no essay.
One follow-up
A single light nudge with added context. Then stop. Volume past this point only burns the account.
House rules
Timing beats copy. A mediocre message inside the window outperforms a brilliant one outside it.
Reply-aware, always. Any reply stops the sequence. Automation should be invisible, not obvious.
Match their language. A prospect who works in French gets French. Details like this are the difference between outreach and spam.
Never fake relevance. Don’t mention a signal you can’t stand behind, and don’t promise a custom doc you didn’t make.
